Peter Skelton
Photographer 1963-1975
The ‘In Memoriam’ section announced Pete’s sudden death, in June 2020.
In 1963, Pete joined Fielding & Platt as an Apprentice in the Photographic Department. That department had quite a reputation, not just for the quality of its industrial photographs but as a film-making unit thanks to the skills of people like Arthur Hickman and Brian Mince. Proof of those skills can be seen by visiting our website.
It was due to the skills he learnt in that department that Pete became an accomplished photographer in his own right. The quality of his steam railway photographs especially, received wide acclaim.
The August/September edition of Steam Railway magazine printed a tribute highlighting some of Pete’s many exploits in the field of railway photography and with kind permission of the magazine editor, Nick Brodrick, and author David Wilcock, their tribute is attached in full.
An excellent read that reflects the warmth and regard in which he was held by his many friends – John B.
