  • The back row, 4th from the right next to Clive Graham is Mike Stanbrook, who sadly passed away in July this year.

Ed: Thanks, Andy, for updating the Apprentice photograph and also for advising us of his demise. John B

  • “As Tony said Derek Noddy Bennett was a great guy; a friend to all and he loved to enjoy himself as we did as apprentices home and away… our thoughts go out to his family…”.

  • “My good mate of 56yrs passed away last week. Derek “Noddy” Bennett, Johnny Worgan, and myself formed a very special friendship whilst apprentices at fielding and Platt. A friendship that would last forever. We were the dynamic trio and got involved in everything. We loved the work and we loved the travel and we loved the blokes we travelled with. If I had time I could write a book twice the size of the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. Meantime I have the millions of memories that we gathered in our relatively short time together.

    Great Bloke was our Noddy!

Our condolences go out to his family especially Jen, his lovely wife”.

  • Thanks Keith, you’ve recalled so many names there – great! – I wonder who the main “characters” of your intake were?! I’ve heard tales of practical jokes and getting Bert Ravenhill wet on Friday scrub out day in the Apprentice School and Wednesday afternoons in the bath after rugby!

  • Thanks Keith! It’d be great if you could help us match the names to the faces by saying who is in the back and the front rows and in what order!

I’m currently putting together a few pages on Fielding’s rugby teams in the “Social Life” section of the site, so keep your eyes peeled for more photos that might bring back memories. And when they do, please feel free to share them with us on the site!

If you’d like to add your own photos and memories of the company then please feel free to do so by adding a page to the site yourself or sending them onto me at oliver.taylor@gloucestershire.gov.uk

It’s great to hear how your time at Fielding’s stood you in good stead for life. I hope you’ll continue to enjoy and share on the site.

  • I am in the middle of the back row. I can name most of the people in the picture. I worked at F&P for 12 years! Played rugby for Berry Hill, Fielding’s, and then Gordon League. I moved to Cannock, Staffs, in 1968 working for a company who were using Fielding machinery. I am now, at the age of 72, still using the skills learnt at Fielding and Platt by installing hydraulic concrete presses, mainly in the Middle East for the company Forest Press based in Cinderford.
