During the mid 1970s there was a growing need to develop a new system for the control of air/water hydraulic accumulators to replace the older thermionic valve and, even older still, search-coil and mercury-type control systems that lacked modern-day safety features. Electronic engineer Peter Salter, designed new level control units that incorporated solid-state electronic components to the highest military specifications. These, and similar photos in this section, illustrate the new-type accumulator control panels that were successfully retrofitted to many accumulator systems throughout the UK and overseas.
