The Fielding & Platt History website was created by the Fielding & Platt Community Archive Project.
In the Spring of 2012, the Fielding & Platt Community Archive Project was awarded a grant of £43,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to gather, preserve, and share the heritage of Gloucester's great engineering firm Fielding & Platt.
The 18 month project, led by Gloucestershire Archives in partnership with Gloucester City Centre Community Partnership, trained volunteers in a variety of skills - from oral history interviewing, and digital story and website editing, to cataloguing archival material.
The great success of the project was due to the work of our project officer, his enthusiastic volunteers and a high level of community interest. We achieved our formal targets with over 50 hour-long interviews recorded; 46 donations of archive material preserved; a vibrant website created with contributions from around the world; and an innovative interactive mobile game inspired by the Fielding & Platt story that during the project could be played by youngsters with their families visiting The Quays.
A pop-up exhibition was provided at The Quays during the project by the Centre Manager and two permanent commemorative plaques are now installed there to mark the Fielding & Platt factory site.
The website and other activities are continuing thanks to a legacy group of volunteers. If you would like to help the group in any way, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
