  • There is a spelling mistake: his name is Berkeley Mordecai. I remember that he was in the drawing office but sadly was killed in a scooter accident whilst travelling to referee a rugby match on the other side of Dymock.

  • Thanks for adding these really interesting memories Bryan. I’m sorry we don’t seem to have the 1948 apprentice intake photo showing yourself, Brian Mason, and Gordon Edwards. Perhaps you have a photograph of the intake yourself or know someone who does?

If you would like to arrange for your memories of Fielding’s to be recorded send me an email at

    oliver.taylor@gloucestershire.gov.uk

Or you can add your write them straight onto the site by adding pages yourself! The page http://www.fieldingandplatthistory.org.uk/addyourmemories will take you through how to do this.

It would be great to have more memories of what it was like to work at Fielding’s in the 1940s.

  • I believe that the apprentice 8th from left in the back row (including Mr Fairbrother) is “Herbie” Baker. He did National Service in the Royal Navy as I did and was at my demob party in 1956.

I started as apprentice in the same intake as Brian Mason and Gordon Edwards on 9 August 1948, but do not recognise myself in any of the 1948 groups.
