BBC Great British Story Day

Launching the project telling Gloucester's engineering history

On 7 July, the Fielding and Platt Community Archive Project was invited to be part of the BBC’s Great British Story Day.

At the event, the project was officially launched and 100s of people came to The Wheatstone Hall at Gloucester Museum to sign-up to contribute their memories of Fielding and Platt and to donate and deposit unique photographs and documents, including the original partnership deed signed by Samuel Fielding and James Platt.

Children enjoyed learning about the company and their presses, too, by designing and making their own badges. In doing so they learnt about the process of manufacturing at the company, from drawing and designing in The Drawing Office, to cutting and preparing the materials for their badges in The Machine Shop, and finally assembling their badges in The Fitting Shop!  All under the watchful eyes of the foremen (their Mums)!
