Opening of Fielding and Platt Gallery at Gloucester Quays

Sharing the Fielding story with the people of Gloucester

On 1 September 2012, an exhibition on the history of Fielding and Platt opened in Unit 52 of The Gloucester Quays Outlet Centre. Over 400 people of all ages attended the opening.

Children learnt about hydraulics by using mini cranes to lift weights. They also became apprentices for the day, learning about the industrial process by designing, cutting, and pressing their own badges.

The Quays now stands on the site of Fielding and Platt’s factory so it is appropriate that visitors to the centre can learn about the site and its history. Click here to see maps of the former factory site.

The photos here show the exhibition and people of all ages enjoying learning about Fielding and Platt and the work done there.

The Fielding and Platt Exhibition was free to visit at Gloucester Quays until it closed in November 2013.

Did you visit the exhibition or enjoy the family fun day at its opening?  If so, what did you think of it?  We’d love to hear your feedback so please add a comment below.

  • “I have seen the display at Gloucester Quays and it is good to know that Fielding’s will be remembered. After being demobbed from the RN I was sent to F & P for my first factory job. This was all new to me and I started in the light m/c shop on a lathe. Late I was on a drilliing m/c in the heavy m/c shop where I spent the rest of my time until I was made redundant at the age of 50. I spent quite a few years on nights and I’m pretty sure that in those intervening years i must have spent time on every type of m/c in there. I ended up as an inspector and spent those last few years on day shift, my wife telling me to get onto days because my youngest son was getting married and leaving home and she would not want to be alone at night. (No comments please). I was always called Ginger, obviously because of my hair colour which is now white. I have great memories of Fieldings which will never leave me. I don’t know how many of my age group still live but I am 87.”

  • I visited the exhibition at the Quays in March and was very interested to see the photographs etc. My wife took some photos as I was looking at the display.
