This pump was one of a number of pumps built to supply the Air/Water Accumulator station used to power the F & P 3500 ton Copper Extrusion Press.

The first overhead-mounted-motor version of this pump was introduced in 1963 for English Steel Co. as a result of a need to minimise the space required for installation.
