Gas Engine c.1914

The engine in the pictures is a Gas Engine Serial Number 5487 and it was built circa 1910 and uses low tension ignition instead of a hot tube.

It has a bore 5½” and stroke 9″ and develops approximately 5hp.

The engine was exported new to Queensland and supplied by the dealers Smellie & Co, Brisbane.

The engine was built as a portable unit and has always been used on petrol.

After being purchased by the present owner in 1999 there followed an extensive restoration which took approximately 8 years.
