A Stretcher of 3900 tons power was needed by CEGEDUR (France’s leading aluminium firm) to help build parts for the supersonic jet Concorde. The Stretcher was needed to stress relieve large aluminium slabs used in the production of stressed members required by large aircraft of the future. Fielding’s were awarded the contract to design and build this Stretcher, in only 14 months, for CEGEDUR’s Issoire factory in southern France. The film shows the building and testing of this giant stretcher and also some parts of the production of aluminium slabs.
